
Mark Worthington corporate biography BBC reporter ![]() Mark is the East of England reporter for BBC News. He is a regular contributor to the BBC's news bulletins and programmes on radio and television. Mark's 'patch' includes Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and Cambridgeshire. On television he reports regularly from the area for the BBC News Channel, 'BBC Breakfast' and the 'BBC News at One'. On radio he can be heard on news bulletins on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live and he contributes to radio news programmes, including the 'Today' programme and writes for BBC News Online. Mark has reported on a huge variety of events for the BBC, from violent murders to the chaotic opening of Heathrow's Terminal Five and the Spice Girls reunion tour. In the East of England he has reported on a number of the effects of the economic downturn, from horses being abandoned to the increase in shoplifting and the use of car clubs and recently he has reported from Japan post tsunami, on the Dale Farm evictions, the Stephen Lawrence murder trial and the Queen’s visit to Ireland among others. Mark's journalism career has taken him all over the world. For several years he worked as a BBC reporter in Northern Ireland where he reported on the final years of sectarian troubles leading up to the current political settlement. He covered many of the major events, from political breakthroughs to rioting and firebomb attacks. Before that Mark Worthington produced news reports from Europe, Africa and the Middle East for the Japanese network, TBS. Mark speaks Japanese, which he studied during two years teaching English in a rural Japanese school. During this time he wrote about travel and culture in Japan for the 'Kansai Time Out'. His work at the BBC has taken him back to Japan, and he has also reported on world events for the BBC's global channel, BBC World News. In 2008 he provided a series of reports on the deteriorating global economy which were broadcast domestically and around the world. Mark studied at Oxford University. He graduated with a BA Honours degree in English Language and Literature. He later became a BBC News trainee and attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at City University in London. Mark Worthington is a confident public speaker with extensive experience of live broadcasting. He has provided voiceover work for a variety of organisations, including the Northern Bank and the environmental organisation NetRegs (a government organisation which provides environmental guidance for businesses across the UK). As well as being an accomplished live broadcaster Mark has been involved in training other BBC reporters in live techniques. Mark is an accomplished video journalist with extensive experience of filming and editing his own reports. In 2006 he was shortlisted for an international video journalism prize, The Concentra Award, for a report following a former prisoner of war on his first return visit to where he was held in Japan.
